Georgetown Farmer’s Market!

Did you know that Georgetown was originally fertile farmland within the Duwamish Valley? This land provided an abundance of natural resources, including fish, shellfish, berries, camas root, wild onions, greens, and herbs, traditionally harvested by the Duwamish people, the original stewards of the area. With the arrival of European-American settlers, the valley’s access to water made it a key location for agricultural development, including the cultivation of hops for beer production. Over time, Georgetown became a hub for labor, drawing migrant workers and fostering diverse communities, including people of Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Scandanavian heritage, as well as the local Duwamish people who have maintained a deep connection to the land.

We are very excited that the first modern day Farmer’s Market has been established now through the help of the Office of Sustainability and Environment. We hope you will all take part as regulars to this great community asset!
